Mick Hammond is the Aontú rep for Killiney-Shankill.  He is 61 years old and has lived most of his life in Ballybrack. He attended secondary school in St Laurence College and then served his time as a butcher, followed by 36 years in the National Rehabilitation Hospital.

For many years, Mick has been active as a trade unionist in the SIPTU Health Division. A lifelong Republican, Mick is a passionate advocate for Irish unity, as he feels it is only then that our nation can achieve its full potential.

Mick is a founder member of Aontú and is currently Cathaoirleach of the Dún Laoghaire Roger Casement Cumann.  Currently a full-time carer, Mick endorses the call from Peadar Tóibín for an end to means testing of the carers allowance.

Mick’s other interests include following the Dublin football team.
