Peadar Tóibín says Ireland’s neutrality needs defending and calls on citizens to come along and make their voices heard.
Aontú is holding a series of public meetings across Ireland on the importance of protecting Irish neutrality and defending the Triple Lock.
Party leader Peadar Tóibín, Paul Lawless TD, Senator Sarah O’Reilly and local Aontú councillors will be among those speaking at the events on what is a key matter for Irish people and for Ireland.
So far, meetings are planned for Navan, Dublin, Cork and Mayo and more will be announced in the coming weeks.
The first meeting is in Deputy Tóibín’s home town of Navan, at the Newgrange Hotel in Co Meath on Monday November 9 at 8pm.
The next is in Dublin’s Gresham Hotel on O’Connell Street on Tuesday November 10 at 7.30pm; and another in Cork’s Clayton Hotel on November 16 at 7pm. A public meeting in Mayo will follow, with further details on that to be announced.
Tóibin said: “This is of such importance, which is why we are inviting everyone to come together in a national discussion on it, in the public square.
“We believe the people of Ireland should make a decision on this in the form of a referendum.
“It is tied in with the Nice referendum when every house in Ireland was told it would be a safeguard to Irish neutrality, before we voted.
“Any change it is wrong and Aontú will be rolling out a series of public meetings starting in Meath. If you care about Irish neutrality and you believe the Triple Lock must be saved as a central tenet of Irish neutrality, than join us at one of our meetings.”
