Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín said the current Minister and the former Minister for Justice need to come before the Dáil on the Protected Disclosures controversy.
“It is quite incredible we have had such senior gardai who have come out in relation to the actions of the previous Justice Minister Helen McEntee and the current Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan on protected disclosures.
“The whistleblowers are of the view that the previous Justice Minister Helen McEntee acted against the provisions of the law by referring those disclosures back to the garda commissioner.
“We ask that Minister McEntee comes before the Dáil this week and answers questions and explains her actions in relation to this.
“We have not got confidence in Minister McEntee. It’s vital she articulates exactly her actions and whether or not they were within the law during her time as minister for Justice.
“If there isn’t a resolution on this current crisis, we will consider putting down a motion of no confidence in the former Minister for Justice and the current Minister for Justice.”
“We have also written to the chair of the Justice Committee to ask they invite senior gardai, the Ministers involved, and the individual gardai who are making these allegations, to the committee.
