‘POP UP AND SHOP’ FOR PALESTINE

Sep 17, 2025

The ongoing plight of the people of Gaza will be centre stage at a fundraising event to be held in Castleknock next month.

As part of an ongoing drive to raise funds for the besieged people of the war raved region, Aontú Cllr Ellen Troy is organising a one day pop up shop in Castleknock Tennis Club.

She says

“It is utterly heart wrenching to see the pain and suffering that the unfortunate civilians of Gaza have to endure. Words really can’t give full expression to how I feel about the situation. It is horrific to see so many tens of thousands of civilian lives lost and destroyed and changed irreparably. These are human beings, just like you and me, and they are forced to have to endure the most appalling, unjust and indiscriminate suffering. Children are dying, elderly people are dying, ordinary people have to scramble for meagre rations of food, others are dying of starvation, the catalogue of injuries is horrendous; it is beyond comprehension, and it is inhuman”.

Rather than feel helpless and hopeless, I decided to organise this one-day event where people from all over D 15 can donate their once loved and gently used clothes and accessories, and we in turn will sell them at our one day pop up shop, and send on the proceeds to the Irish Red Cross who are doing such wonderful humanitarian work in Gaza.

We all have clothes in our wardrobes that we are either tired of, have never worn or bought on a whim and wish to get rid of, and this ‘Pop Up and Shop for Palestine’ is the perfect opportunity to do that.

She says that she has been inundated with donations of clothes and promises some real treasures on the day.

“People are just so good, so generous. They are watching the horrendous scenes of human misery on their television screens night after night and have really come on board for this pop-up shop. They have given me fabulous items for sale, and I can’t wait to see the reaction from people on the day.

People can pick up some fabulous items at fabulously low prices on the day, so even if you don’t have stuff languishing at the back of your wardrobe, come along and pick up something that will be new to you.

Cllr Troy says that all items must be in excellent condition and on hangers to ensure items are ready for display.

She says

“I am looking for everything really, women’s and men’s clothes, accessories like bags and shoes and items like wraps, scarves and belts. Every single item that is sold will mean something for the poor people in Gaza.

“I have been in contact with the Palestinian Ambassador who is delighted that we’re doing this event and Castleknock Tennis Club has been so generous to give us their venue free of charge.

Every single cent raised will go to the Irish Red Cross and it is a real opportunity for the people to show solidarity with the suffering people of Gaza and pick up something beautiful for themselves into the bargain”.

A previous fundraising event organised by Cllr Troy, ‘Paint for Palestine’ raised almost €6,000 for humanitarian aid in Gaza.
