Paul Lawless, (TD) Mayo

Paul Lawless (TD) was first elected to Mayo County Council in June 2024. On behalf of the people of Mayo he has since stood firmly against unnecessary and wasteful expenditure by Government, which saw him elected to Dáil Éireann at the end of 2024.
A dedicated campaigner, he has fought for better conditions for firefighters, a stronger Garda force and justice for the farming and fishing communities. Paul led the Mayo University Hospital campaign and founded the Mayo Cataract Bus in 2019, helping hundreds regain their sight and independence.

Paul holds a Master’s in Business Administration (M.B.A) and a Bachelor’s in Physical Education and Mathematics (B.Ed.) He has taught maths and PE at Ballyhaunis Community School. After playing soccer for Mayo, Connaught and the Republic of Ireland at underage level, he achieved a professional contract with Derby County FC. Paul plays Gaelic football for both Aughamore GAA Club and the Mayo junior football team.

Paul felt compelled to get involved in local politics to address the regional development imbalance which is hurting Mayo. He said dissatisfaction with how Mayo has continuously been left out of government investment and the devastating impact this has had on his generation of friends, led him to get involved in local politics.
