The Palestinian Ambassador to Ireland will attend the next in a series of ‘Pop Up and Shop for Gaza’ events organised by Aontú to raise funds for the besieged people of that region.
Ambassador Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid will join Aontú Rep for Dún Laoghaire, Organiser, Mairead Tóibín for the fundraising shopping event in Dún Laoghaire ,which follows on from the inaugural event (in Castleknock) which was a resounding success, raising well over €7,000 for the people of Gaza, every single cent of which goes to the Irish Red Cross working in Gaza.
Mairead Tóibín says
“It is enormously distressing to witness the ongoing challenges faced by civilians in Gaza. The situation has resulted in huge loss of life, injury, and hardship for many individuals, including children and older adults, who are experiencing food shortages and appalling living conditions. These circumstances are deeply concerning on a humanitarian level. Rather than feeling hopeless and helpless, we decided to do something tangible and proactive to help the people.
We are looking for people to donate their once loved gently used clothing and accessories. These items will be sold at our pop-up shop, with proceeds going directly to the Irish Red Cross to support their humanitarian work in Gaza”.
Ms Tóibín says that many people have unused or lightly worn clothing at home, and the ‘Pop Up and Shop for Palestine’ provides an opportunity to contribute these items for this charitable cause.
She says
“All donated items must be in excellent condition and provided on hangers. We’re looking for a wide range of items, including women’s and men’s clothing, accessories such as bags and shoes, as well as wraps, scarves, and belts. “
She adds, “The people of Dún Laoghaire have responded so generously already, donating many top-quality items as they believe in the humanitarian effort.
We will be selling these items very, very reasonably, and shoppers will have the opportunity to pick up the most fabulous items for a song . Every item sold will contribute to aid efforts for people in Gaza.
It is important to say too that people can just come along and buy items if they don’t have items to donate.
This is a lovely opportunity for the people of Dún Laoghaire and its environs to come together, show solidarity with the suffering people of Gaza and pick up something beautiful for themselves into the bargain”.
