Fix Political Culture
Standing up, without fear, for you
Aontú will end the broken political culture of the ‘finger in the wind’ politics of the establishment. Aontú will empower elected representatives to stand and speak up for what they believe in and by doing so, really challenge the establishment. We will break the groupthink within the media and political establishment that silences and stifles political debate in Ireland. Aontú will stand up, without fear, for you.
Stormont inaction
Stormont is a byword for dysfunction and idleness. Great promises are made at every election by parties across the board, only for the legislature to spend four years sitting half days, increasing their own salaries and blaming others when it refuses to address problems within its power.
Aontú has been at the forefront of exposing its failures. Whether in seeking to close down health services or spending millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money to provide temporary accommodation in hotels and B&B’s rather than building permanent social homes, we have been unafraid to challenge the cosy cartel in Belfast.
When challenged, the DUP and Sinn Fein revert to type by playing the sectarian card and refusing to deliver.
Dáil chaos
Despite the 2024 General Election long having passed, the Irish government crippled the Oireachtas as it pushed through changes to Standing Orders as part of its deal with Michael Lowry and his merry band of Independents.
In that time, prices have spiralled at supermarkets, tariffs have been imposed on the EU by the US, and the housing crisis has deepened.
Our strengthened team are working hard in the Dáil, Seanad and committees to deliver accountability from a government dead-set on repeating the same mistakes, using spin to hide their failures and offering platitudes to the public.
In Councils across the country, we are backing communities that elected us and bringing forward solutions that deliver services with as little cost to the public as possible.
Our focus
We will focus on informing the public about the failures of the political establishment, but more importantly, sharing with you our ideas and plans as to how to address them, outside of the political bubble of Stormont and Leinster House
