Cllr. Dave Boyne Condemns Irish Water, says they’re not fit for purpose
Aontú Councillor for Meath, Dave Boyne, has strongly criticised Irish Water for what he calls a “completely unacceptable and ongoing failure” to provide reliable water services to the people of Meath. With persistent outages, poor infrastructure, and a lack of long-term investment, Cllr. Boyne said Meath residents are being “treated like second-class citizens.”
“I acknowledge there have been improvements in Trim and Enfield, but it falls far short of what you’d expect in a first-world country. And almost as if Irish Water hadn’t enough Uisce to go around, now Clonard has been left high and dry, literally” said Cllr. Boyne. “I called for Irish Water to attend the March council meeting of Trim MD to answer questions, the council sent them a letter outlining this – they never even responded. It’s disgraceful, and the people here have had enough.”
He went on to criticise what he sees as a wider pattern of neglect. “This isn’t just about a few burst pipes — it’s about a system that’s failing rural communities,” he said. “Irish Water continues to pour money into big PR ad campaigns while basic infrastructure in Meath is falling apart, one town after another. Where is the plan to fix this?”
Cllr. Boyne is calling for an immediate intervention from both Irish Water and government officials. “Like Trim and Enfield, Clonard deserves a modern, functional water system like any other part of the country. It’s time for Irish Water to stop making excuses and start making progress. This level of service would never be tolerated in other parts of the country — why should Clonard be any different?”
