“Fine Gael Comments Hypocritical After They Invited Vulture Funds into Country in the First Place” – Tóibín

Oct 21, 2025

The Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín TD has slammed Fine Gael’s “hypocrisy” over their presidential election ad concerning vulture funds.

Speaking today, Deputy Tóibín said: “In any profession, people are sometimes tasked with doing things they don’t feel comfortable with. In those instances – and I speak from experience here – people should listen to their conscience and weigh up the morality of what they’ve been tasked with doing and leave the employment if necessary. Catherine Connolly should answer questions on whether or not she had a role in the repossession of homes. But there is a deep hypocrisy from Fine Gael, however, in their attack ads which they’ve published in recent days”.

Deputy Tóibín continued: “We know that it was Fine Gael who invited vulture funds into the country. Michael Noon publicly made the argument for the Vulture Funds to be brought in. Fine Gael allowed the vulture funds to wreak untold damage on families”.

There are still hundreds of families who are losing their homes and farms today as a result of the the vulture funds.  people who are still losing their houses and still in a bad way over

that happened. A report from the Oireachtas earlier this year found that up to 7,000 homeowners are currently paying interest at a rate of at least 8.5% on their mortgage to vulture funds.

The ordinary people on the ground – the victims of vulture funds – must be livid about the hypocrisy of a FG attack ad on vulture fund repossessions given that FG is the author of this damaging policy, concluded Tóibín.
