A concerted campaign towards improving road safety on a dangerous stretch of road in Donegal has finally paid off.
Aontú representative, Mary T Sweeney spearheaded a drive to for new road safety signage to be installed on the Letterkenny to Drumkeen road, organising a series of public meetings to bring the community and commuters together out onto the streets to voice their concerns about safety on the stretch.
She says
“The installation of the long-awaited road signage marks a positive development for both the community living between Letterkenny and Drumkeen and the many commuters who travel this busy route daily.
The need for enhanced safety measures on secondary roads in Donegal has been highlighted by the numerous accidents and tragic fatalities that have occurred along this stretch in recent years.
The community has warmly welcomed the new signage, expressing relief that tangible safety measures are finally being put in place. The campaign’s success stands as a testament to the power of community action and continued advocacy for safer roads in Donegal. I am determined that further enhancements are made, with calls for additional road widening and further safety initiatives to protect all road users in the area”
“This is just the beginning as there are a number of areas along this road which would benefit greatly from road widening, to make it even safer with the growing number of commuters using this route”.
