Aontú Councillor for Claremorris on Mayo County Council, Deirdre Lawless has welcomed the commencement of street improvement works in Claremorris, following a motion she tabled at the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting calling for the town’s street poles to be cleaned and painted ahead of the upcoming All-Ireland Confined Drama Finals.

The major event, which takes place from Friday, 25th April to Sunday, 4th May, is set to bring visitors from across the country to Claremorris, and Cllr Lawless emphasised the importance of having the town looking its best.

“I was pleased to bring this motion forward at MD level because it’s important that we put our best foot forward when Claremorris is in the spotlight,” she said. “I’m delighted to confirm that the works are now underway and are expected to be completed well in advance of the festival.”

Cllr Lawless also confirmed her support for the project through the allocation of General Municipal Allocation (GMA) funding, which has helped enable the works to proceed quickly.

“I’d like to thank our Roads Engineer and engineering staff for their quick response and commitment to getting the job done on time. Their efforts ensure Claremorris will be ready to welcome visitors with a fresh and welcoming streetscape.”

Cllr Lawless also acknowledged the wider community’s role in preparing for the prestigious event.

“This is a fantastic occasion for Claremorris, and the success of the festival depends not only on the visiting drama groups and of coarse the hard work of the organisers, but on the dedicated efforts of local volunteers, Claremorris Tidy Towns, and the Chamber of Commerce, who work year-round to keep our town in top condition,” she said.

With final preparations underway, Cllr Lawless concluded by encouraging the community to get behind the event: “This is a moment to be proud of our town, to show what Claremorris can offer, and to ensure visitors leave with a great impression. I’m confident this year’s finals will be a wonderful success for all involved.”
