Cllr Deirdre Lawless took her seat on the Mayo County Council in January of this year following the successful election to Dáil Éireann of Paul Lawless. Since then she has been working on many issues facing the local area, as well as challenging government and agencies for their neglect of people in Claremorris and surrounds, especially during and since Storm Eowyn.
She is a wife and mother, and has worked in education for many years. Wellness and fitness are passions of hers. Deirdre encourages the wider public to be politically engaged and community focused. A healthy democracy needs active citizens, unafraid to hold the government to account on critical issues.
The last few years have shown a level of government disconnect never experienced before in Ireland. This Government is not listening to the people and more and more are getting left behind. It is no longer feasible nor tenable to wait in hope that things will improve- we have to be the change we want to see.
