May 28, 2025

A total of 405 inspections were carried out by Cavan County Council last year on private landlord let accommodation last year.

221 dwellings did not meet the regulations required on first inspection with 24 notices served on landlords for improvements to be carried out.

2 probation notices were served on landlords.

Meanwhile in Monaghan, 360 dwellings were inspected. 219 did not meet the initial standards required with 210 letters sent to landlords requiring them to carry out improvements.

2 improvement notices were served with the same figure of probation notices being issued.

Commenting on the figures which were released to Aontú, Senator Sarah O’Reilly said

“In light of the recent inspections, it is clear that more resources are needed to ensure that rental accommodations meet the required standards,”  “People are paying exorbitant rents and deserve good quality housing. We need to appoint more inspectors to carry out thorough inspections and enforce regulations, guaranteeing that everyone has access to safe and adequate living conditions.”
