Families across Ireland are struggling with the rising cost of living, and home heating has become one of the biggest financial pressures.
The cost of heating oil, gas and electricity remains extremely high. Yet the Government’s recent reduction of just 2 cent per litre in carbon tax has made little to no meaningful difference to household bills.
For many families, this small reduction amounts to only a few euro — while full heating costs continue to run into hundreds.
Carbon tax, as currently applied, is hitting ordinary working households hardest. Many families earn just above the threshold for State supports, but are still under severe financial strain.
This is especially true in rural areas, where households rely on home heating oil and have no realistic alternative.

We call on the Government to:
- Axe the carbon tax on home heating fuels during the energy crisis
- Deliver real cost-of-living relief for working families
