Swords Councillor Darren Jack Kelly is the second councillor within 2 months to join Aontú. Welcoming Darren Jack into the party, An Teachta Tóibín stated:
“I’m delighted that Darren Jack Kelly is joining the Aontú elected rep team. Darren is extremely well got in his hometown of Swords. This was clearly visible in how well he did in the local election.
Darren has proven in his short time on Fingal County Council that he is a worker. He has got stuck into a number of important local projects that are already bearing fruit for people. Darren has also shown that he has a backbone and is willing to stand up for his community on the big issues.
Darren’s addition to the Aontú team on Fingal County Council will put Aontú in 5th place out of 10 parties, just 1 councillor behind SF. He will be joining both Cllr Ellen Troy and Cllr Gerard Sheehan who are doing sterling work in Castleknock and Ongar.
Aontú had the biggest increase in votes of any party on Fingal County Council in the last Local Election. I want to thank Margaret McGovern who helped create a great foundation in the constituency in the General Election. Margaret will remain a key member of our team in Fingal and I believe we will see her elected to the council at the next opportunity
Fingal has one of the fastest growing populations in the country. It also has one of the youngest populations in Ireland. Its still not getting the necessary transport, community and education infrastructure that it needs. Its clear it needs a strong voice in the Dáil.
I believe that Darren can be that voice. We in Aontú will build the necessary team around Darren to make sure that he will be able to properly represent the people of Fingal East in the next Dáil.
Speaking on his first day within the party Cllr Darren Jack Kelly stated:
Over the past 18 months, I have had the privilege of serving as an Independent County Councillor on Fingal County Council. It has been an honour to represent the people of Swords, Rolestown, St Margaret’s and Santry, and to work on the issues that matter most to our communities.
With more than two decades of experience in the media industry, I have developed a deep appreciation for community values and for the rich heritage of Swords my lifelong home. My family roots are firmly planted here, and I am fully committed to ensuring our area continues to grow and thrive.
Today, I am announcing that I am joining Aontú.
I believe this move will allow me to deliver even more for the people I represent. Fingal is one of the fastest-growing and youngest regions in the country, yet we are still not receiving the transport, community and education infrastructure we urgently need. Our communities deserve a strong, consistent voice, both locally and nationally.
I look forward to working closely with Peadar Tóibín and the Aontú team, while continuing to stand up for local projects, local families and the future of Fingal East.
