Senator Tom Clonan to be guest speaker at upcoming Aontú public meeting on Triple Lock.

Nov 6, 2026

Leader Peadar Tóibín will share the stage with the independent Senator and former defence forces peacekeeper Clonan, a strong defender of Ireland’s neutrality who opposes the removal of the Triple Lock.
Aontú is holding a series of public meetings across Ireland on the importance of protecting Irish neutrality and defending the Triple Lock, starting next week.
Senator Tom Clonan will be guest speaker at the Dublin event, which is on in the Gresham Hotel next Tuesday November 10 at 7.30pm.
Party leader Peadar Tóibín recognises the importance of a unified front politically when it comes to supporting the retention of the vital safeguard.
He said: “I am delighted independent Senator and Defence Forces authority Tom Clonan is speaking at the public meeting on the importance of keeping the triple lock.
“As a former peacekeeper himself, Senator Clonan knows first hand why the triple lock is so essential for Irish troops, and for Ireland.”
So far, meetings are planned for Navan, Dublin, Cork and Mayo and more will be announced in the coming weeks.
The first meeting is in Deputy Tóibín’s home town of Navan, at the Newgrange Hotel in Co Meath on Monday November 9 at 8pm.
Then there is Dublin’s Gresham Hotel on O’Connell Street on Tuesday November 10 at 7.30pm; and another in Cork’s Clayton Hotel on November 16 at 7pm. A public meeting in Mayo will follow, with further details on that to be announced.
Tóibin said: “This is of such importance, which is why we are inviting everyone to come together in a national discussion on it, in the public square.
“We believe the people of Ireland should make a decision on this in the form of a referendum.
“It is tied in with the Nice referendum when every house in Ireland was told it would be a safeguard to Irish neutrality, before we voted.
“Any change to it is wrong and so Aontú is hosting a series of public meetings starting in Meath. If you care about Irish neutrality and you believe the Triple Lock must be saved as a central tenet of Irish neutrality, than join us at one of our meetings.”
