Tóibín: “Irish electricity prices are now the highest in the world.”

The Aontú leader says a new CRU levy which kicks in this month means Ireland has toppled Bermuda as having the most expensive electricity prices in the world.
Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín says Ireland now has the most expensive electricity prices on the planet.
“Bermuda used to be the highest in the world, but now Ireland has gone past it, with a new Commission for Regulation of Utilities charge of €41 a year and price hikes.
“A study of Irish bills in comparison to Bermuda bills shows that the Ireland is now more expensive, when all extras are included.
“The cost of living is hammering families across the country. Yet this month, the CRU will impose this new cost onto people’s electricity bills.
“They will add €41 a year extra to every single bill across the country for network charges. We are already spending about €500 a year on each bill for network charges. We already pay a PSO. This is yet another charge.
“Incredibly, we were vying with Bermuda for the highest electricity prices in the world. Now Ireland has taken the top spot.
“We are asking the government to make sure the burden is reduced for people in the coming years.”
