O’Dowd slams church vandalism

A local public representative has hit out at an incident at a Drogheda church where two planters were destroyed and the contents strewn around the ground.

Aontú’s Michael O’ Dowd says

“The wanton vandalism carried out over the weekend outside the Augustinian Church in Drogheda, where two planters were destroyed, is deeply disappointing and unacceptable.

While some may dismiss this as minor damage, targeting property outside a place of worship is particularly disrespectful and upsetting for parishioners and the wider local community.

There is understandable concern whenever churches or religious spaces are singled out in this way. It is deeply upsetting and unsettling for locals and for Mass goers who have told me of their distress.

We need a zero-tolerance approach to vandalism and anti-social behaviour of any kind in our town. Places of worship should be treated with respect, regardless of denomination or belief.

I am urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Gardaí”.
