The Palestinian Ambassador to Ireland, Dr. Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid, attended Aontú’ s second “Pop Up & Shop for Gaza” fundraising event which took place over the weekend to raise vital funds for humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza.

The Dún Laoghaire event, organised by local Aontú Rep Mairead Tóibín, built on the success of a previous fundraiser hosted by Aontú Cllr Ellen Troy in Castleknock.

Together, the two events raised €8,350 in total, with all proceeds going directly to support humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Abdalmajid expressed her gratitude for the deep compassion and solidarity shown by the organisers of the events.

She said

“This is a lovely community event. The Irish people have always stood firmly on the side of justice and humanity. Your generosity and solidarity with Palestine give strength and hope to our people in Gaza who continue to endure unimaginable hardship.”

“Across Ireland, people are standing up for the people of Gaza — not just in words but in action. These events demonstrate the Irish spirit of community, compassion, and justice.”

The “Pop Up & Shop for Gaza” featured beautiful clothes and accessories with all funds going to the Irish Red Cross in Gaza.

Aontú Rep Máiréad Tóibín, who organised the Dún Laoghaire event, which took place at Park House, said.

“We wanted to do something meaningful for Gaza — and the response was extraordinary. The kindness and unity we’ve witnessed over these two events reflect the best of Irish community values. People donated absolutely beautiful clothes and accessories and did so generously”.

“The combined success of the two events highlights the continuing commitment of Irish communities to humanitarian causes and their enduring connection with the Palestinian people”.

Cllr Ellen Troy, who organised the first event in Castleknock, said the fundraising efforts show how communities can make a real difference:

“The generosity we’ve seen has been overwhelming. It’s clear that people across Dublin want to help in any way they can. I am so proud of how people came together to give and instead of feeling hopeless and helpless in light of the devastation in Gaza they came together to help in a tangible way”.
