Tóibín warns Against EU Vaccine Passports. People Cant Get a Vaccine

Speaking in the Dáil today, Aontú Leader Peadar Tóibín TD questioned the Minister for Health on Government Health policy. He stated;

480 people will get Cancer today. Tragically 24 people will die of Cancer today. As a result of the cancelation and reduction of Cancer treatment by your government there will be an influx of massively advanced cancers. This is an absolute disgrace. This week we hear that the government will not return full Cancer Services til end of 2021. How can you stand over this? Will reopen all Cancer services now.

The management of this illness by this government has been a shocking, Minister. We been locked down for 190 days, multiples of the length of time of other European countries who have similar rates of mortality and morbidity.

People right around the country are massively frustrated and angry at the glacial rate of government action. It took a year for mandatory quarantine to put in place and vaccine roll out is a fraction of Britain or the north.

People are being told that there is light at the end of the tunnel. But the tunnel is getting longer and longer. Will you tell the people of Ireland what is the criteria for reopening up the country. How many cohorts of the people you believe must be vaccinated first. What is level of hospital and ICU admissions do we need to get to before this country opened up. You need to stop treating the people like children, Tell people what the pathway us to reopening.

There is much talk about caccine passports both in EU terms. I like, the Irish Council for Civil Liberties believe that this would be wrong. It would create a two-tier citizenship. Those with a vaccine passport would be entitled to freedoms and those without, would be denied them. You need to encourage people not brow beat them. Given that many people can’t get a vaccine, imposing EU vaccine passport would be a kick in the teeth to people who have suffered too much.

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
