Maitiu Ó’Tuathail has been asked to Appear Before Dáil Committee
Aontú Leader & Meath West TD Peadar Tóibín has formally asked Dr Maitiu Ó’Tuathail to appear before a Dáil Committee to give testimony surrounding the leaking of the IMO contract by Leo Varadkar. An Teachta Tóibín has written to both Dr Ó’Tuathail and the Cathaoirleach of the Health Committee to facilitate this happening.
Tóibín: “When the Tánaiste rose to speak in the Dáil on Tuesday evening, he failed to answer a number of critical questions. He failed to answer why he told no one of what he was doing, not even the Minister for Health, why he left no paper trail and why his actions were carried out in an underhand secretive manner. Shockingly the Táiniste could not give a clear answer as to whether or not he had leaked Confidential Cabinet information”.
“The only other party to this phenomenally serious event was Dr Maitiú Ó Tuathail whose messages and language at the time clearly conflict with the answers of the Táiniste and indicate that this was a serious leak of a Confidential Document in an unauthorised manner”.
“In an effort to absolve himself of blame and wrongdoing the Táiniste sought to minimise his friendship with and distance himself from Dr Maitiú O Tuathail. He declared that Dr Ó Tuathail’s communications and untrue and that the Whats App and text messages were false”.
“Given the public interest importance of this crisis its important that Ó Tuathail details what exactly happened. Given that the Contract is a matter of Government Health Policy I have formerly asked the Cathaoirleach of the Health Committee with the agreement of the members of the Committee to facilitate a question and answer session with Dr Ó Tuathail as soon as is possible. I have also formally requested that Dr Ó Tuathail make himself available to an Oireachtas Committee in order for the truth of the leaked confidential document to come to light”.
