"Leo Varadkars Comments on EU Army, when compared with opinion polls, highlights how out of touch he is with general public" - Tóibín
The Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín TD has condemned Táiniste Leo Varadkar’s comments suggesting more Irish involvement in “designing” an EU defence force.
Speaking today, Deputy Tóibín said: “Ireland is a country racked with crises under this government. The cost of living is skyrocketing. The cost of groceries, the cost of fertilizer, the cost of electricity are all increasing. We’re seeing record levels of homelessness. There’s a mental health crisis that’s causing massive hurt and pain throughout our country. Meanwhile the Tánaiste is off playing toy soldier".
"Irish military neutrality is something that the Irish people are proud of and that needs to be protected. The public's support for neutrality is something which is consistently reflected in opinion polls. The people proposing an EU Army should be the first in line to join it”, concluded Tóibín
