Late Term Abortions having a devastating effect on Doctors in Ireland

Aontú Leader & Meath West TD Peadar Tóibín has called the Minister for Health to research psychological damage and consequences on medical staff of late term abortions in Ireland. The call comes after a report was published in the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Tóibín: “A research paper was published in recent days, which extensively interviewed 10 Abortion Doctors who had provided abortions in Ireland. Their testimonies served to confirm the horrors of late term abortions. One doctor recalled getting sick in the corridors after carrying out an abortion. One doctor said abortion was basically ‘stabbing the baby in the heart’. Doctors are being asked to inject – without any pain relief for the unborn – potassium into the heart of the child inducing a horrific heart attack to end their life, and are being irreparably haunted by these horrific acts for the rest of their lives”.

“Another harrowing element of the report referred to the situation arising where a child survived an abortion and whether their lives will be fought for. Indeed, the doctors surveyed said they would be left in a position where they would ‘begging’ anyone to help administer palliative care to the abortion surviving child. It is truly harrowing that there would even be any doubt that a child born in Ireland who survived an abortion should be saved or not.”

“The testimony of these doctors underlines the absolute need to ban late term abortion in Ireland, to allow for pain relief to be given to the child before the abortion and the need for a legal responsibility to safeguard the life of the child if he or she survives an abortion. I tabled these amendments in the Dáil during the legislation. Shockingly FF, FG, SF and Labour voted against these amendments. It comes at a time when we know of a healthy baby being aborted under this element of the Irish Law. I warned Simon Harris that this would happen again at the time of the legislation but of course this too was ignored”.

“The horror of what Irish doctors, nurses and medical staff are being subjected to compounds the injustice of the taking the life of the child, We are calling on the Minister for Health to research phycological impacts and consequences of being subjected this are on medical staff”.

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
