Horse Project for Limerick City Could Yet Be Realised - Cllr Sarah Beasley

19 /8/2024

A much promised and long-awaited Horse project for Limerick City could eventually be realised. That’s according to Aontú Cllr. Sarah Beasley who says that the project is now included in the Mayoral Programme, a development she describes as “very promising”.

Cllr Beasley says: “A much needed Horse Project was originally promised in the 2008 Regeneration Plan. To resolve some of the issues in the housing estates, people were promised a whole host of facilities including stables, rotation of horses and cleaning options so that the animals would
be properly accommodated and not roaming around and at risk of being seized by the pound”.

“It is encouraging to see that the Mayor has seriously considered this proposal. I have been raising this issue for years now. Following our initial submission of five key priorities, we were recently informed that each Councillor in the Metropolitan area could propose one further objective and this is definitely a key objective for me”.

“These beautiful animals must be protected and I firmly believe that the Horse Project will engender a deeper respect for them and encourage better care and conditions. I look forward to working closely with the Mayor to bring this long awaited project to fruition. So far he has shown a commitment to serving all people of Limerick. I hope this collaborative spirit continues as we move forward and one way of truly demonstrating this is by getting this long awaited Horse Project off the group for people in areas of Limerick that up to now have not received the amenities they so badly need”.

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
