Graham Monaghan

Graham Monaghan is a 52 year old married father of two boys. A proud Sligo man, Graham actually began his life as an orphan born in Lifford and then moved to the Orphanage in Fahan Co. Donegal before being adopted by two of the most wonderful loving parents Jimmy and Jos.

Graham went to school in Scoil Ursula, St John NS and then up to Summerhill College - he believes that every day is a learning day. Graham is a professional entertainer/vocalist with more than 30 years in the industry.

A keen golfer, he is also a big Sligo Rovers supporter with both his father and grandfather having played for Rovers. Graham has served as a volunteer on the board at the club for some years along with helping out as a stadium announcer; he was very proud to be part of the Club during a very successful period.

Graham is not afraid to speak his mind and will always stand up and be counted. He would love to have the opportunity to be your voice as your County Councillor for Sligo-Strandhill.

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
