Meath - Navan
Peadar Tóibín was first elected as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Meath West constituency at the 2011 general election. He is a business consultant and Chairperson of the Save Navan Hospital Campaign. He has a degree in Economics and Politics from University College Dublin (UCD) and was an active member of the Kevin Barry Cumann during his time there. He is the founder of the new and fastest growing Irish political party Aontú, which stands for life, unity and economic justice in Ireland.
DR ANNE MCCLOSKEY
Derry
Dr Anne McCloskey, Councillor and Deputy Leader of Aontú, lives in the Waterside in Derry. She worked as a GP in Shantallow Health Centre in the heart of the Ballyarnett Electoral Ward for twenty-seven years, and has insight into the issues and concerns which affect the local communities.
She has been involved in a wide range of community-based initiatives, relating to health, social justice and human rights. These include;
- The campaign for the defence of Articles 2&3 of Bunreacht na hÉireann, relating to the constitutional entitlement of the six counties to be part of the Irish Nation.
- Served on the National Executive of the Irish National Congress.
- Member of The Equality Campaign, highlighting discrimination in employment against nationalists.
- Founder member of the Gasyard Development Trust.
- On the management board of Cunamh, a community based mental health project.
- Is gníomhaí Gaeilge mé, a bhí imobhall de bhord and Ghealáras, Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin, agus Cumann and Ghrianáin.
- She has been involved in the pro-life movement since my days as a medical student, and advocate for the right to life of all people, at every stage of their lives, irrespective of their age, state of health or economic state.
DENISE MULLEN
Mid Ulster
Councillor Denise Mullen was elected to Mid Ulster District Council in 2014.
I stand for truth , justice and doing the right thing.
I live in Moy , the Village I grew up in along with my two sons, my mother also now resides with me. Born into a home that both my parents were huge Civil Rights Activists, I became accustom to my mother assisting getting people houses, benefit system assistance and so on.
I lost my Father Denis when I was almost 4 years of age when the UVF shot him on doorstep of our then home, and also shot at my mother 13 times. Thankfully she survived and I witnessed it all. We are part of the Gleanne Families Atrocities.
I’m passionate about our country, its history, our heritage and culture. However our country needs to address many many things to name only a few, the working poor and benefit increases to all those entitled too, health services, education, vocational support, affordable and social housing, an end to homelessness, infrastructure and our basic human rights. I’m a tireless victim and survivors campaigner of our conflict .
I value quality family time, good food, markets and sea breeze walks in Bundoran.
EMER TÓIBÍN
Meath - Navan
Emer Tóibín is married and has 4 children. She has worked as a lecturer, project manager and in business development over many years. Dissatisfaction with how Meath has continuously been left out of governmental investment and development strategy has led her to get involved in local politics. A sister of Meath West TD Peadar Toibin, she has seen at first-hand the lack of planning and investment that has stymied Meath's growth potential. Involved as a player and coach for many years with Navan O'Mahoneys, Emer is a strong community activist and campaigner. She also played camogie at county level, and played with Navan hockey and with Navan tennis. She volunteers on the local school's parents committee and is engaged in the Save Navan Hospital and Navan Rail link to Dublin campaigns. With your backing, Emer will represent you to the best of her ability. Not afraid to grapple with the inadequacies of our services, you can be sure that she will aim to get the results, that for so long have been denied to the royal county.
SARAH O'REILLY
Cavan – Monaghan
Sarah O'Reilly was co-opted onto Cavan County Council in 2016 and subsequently took up a position as a political administrator. Prior to her co-option, Sarah worked as a buyer for an international company in Cavan Town. Sarah worked in agriculture and civil works for 18 years before returning to education in 2010 and qualifying as an Accountant Technician in 2012. She is a member of The Castle Lake Committee, The Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB), The Joint Policing Committee (JPC), Bailieborough Community School, Cavan's Enterprise and Economic Committee and The Garage Theatre, Monaghan. She has worked extremely hard over the last three years to improve promote and develop the community, and address the concerns of her constituents.
JIM CODD
Wexford
Councillor Jim Codd has been a secondary school teacher at the heart of Rosslare LEA for the past quarter of a century. A strong supporter of traditional Irish culture, Jim introduced handball to Bridgetown College in the 1990s and was a crucial figure in the revamp of the Bridgetown handball club. While running the club, Bridgetown had numerous winners and the largest juvenile membership in the country.
A love of all things rural, Jim is a lifelong member of the NARGC, an eager fisherman and a supporter of sustainable living. He has been involved with numerous charitable organisations including Amnesty International and Saint Vincent de Paul. He is a member of the Bridgetown Historical Society and the Kathleen Browne Arts & Literary Festival Committee.
As a father of three young children Jim believes that drastic action is needed to stop the total decline of regional and rural Ireland. Jim Codd was first elected to Wexford County Council in the 2019 local elections. He is the chairperson of County Wexford Aontú.
PAUL LAWLESS
Mayo - Claremorris
A 27-year-old from Knock, Paul Lawless teaches maths and PE at Ballyhaunis Community School. After playing soccer for Mayo, Connaught and the Republic of Ireland at underage level, he achieved a professional contract with Derby County FC. This led to him attaining a scholarship to study a BE.d at UCC, and an M.B.A in the USA. He is currently completing a post graduate course in mathematics in his spare time. Paul plays Gaelic football for both Aughamore GAA Club and the Mayo junior football team. Paul felt compelled to get involved in local politics to address the regional development imbalance which is hurting Mayo. He said dissatisfaction with how Mayo has continuously been left out of government investment and the devastating impact this has had on his generation of friends, led him to get involved in local politics.
BECKY KEALY
Cork
As a resident of Cork North West, Becky is active in her community. She is committed, engaging, and has led several campaigns in Cork. She dedicates significant time to voluntary work with young people. Becky is committed to representing and delivering for citizens. The integrity, honesty, and vision of Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín TD was a strong motivating factor in Becky’s decision to join and stand for Aontú.
Becky is a strong and motivated young woman from County Cork. She is 28 years old, the eldest of a large family. She studied a Bachelors in Chemistry for 4 years in UCC. She then went on to complete a Masters in Chemistry and is currently working in the Pharmaceutical Industry. Becky was very active during the campaign to save the 8th amendment, she organised street outreaches, pro-life workshops, took part in and won debates on collage campuses. Becky also featured in a television documentary to do with Abortion in Ireland, she debated the Life issues on Radio and has been interviewed on all sorts of media platforms.
Becky stood for Aontú in Cork North West for the GE in Feb 2020, her first political outing when, in a three-week period, she gained the trust of 8.5% of the voters. Becky plans to continue raising her profile in the public domain, and to help get her message out there she has just recently created a YouTube Channel called ‘Becky Kealy Aontú’.
EDWARD MCMANUS
Dublin: Fingal – Castleknock
Edward is a Pharmacist and Community Activist who lives in Castleknock where he is married with two young children.
He has served as Chair of the Blanchardstown Local Drug and Alcohol Task Force from 2014 to 2018. Edward has served as secretary to the Castleknock Residents Action Group, is the current Chair of the Castleknock Parish Council and is also a member of Castleknock Tidy Towns Committee.
Through the activities of his children he is a member and supporter of, Castleknock GAA Football and Hurling Club, Castleknock Tennis Club and Coolmine Rugby Club.
