European Parliament

This year, Aontú is running three candidates for the European Parliament for the first time.  The aims of our candidates are simple; to restore common sense when it comes to isues of concern for our country.

Aisling Considine is a teacher and a mother. She will be the voice of common sense and accountability in the European Parliament. Aisling will put Ireland first in Europe. For the past 5 years she has been very involved in grassroots level politics with women’s rights groups to foster public awareness of the harmful effects of gender identity ideology on children and on the rights of women. She is active in her union INTO (Irish National Teachers Organisation) and is a passionate Gaeilgeoir- “Tír gan Teanga, Tír Gan Anam”. Aisling decided to run for the European Parliament when she found herself asking “Where are the adults in the room?” while contemplating the current Government and opposition parties, who are more concerned with virtue signalling and appealing to Europe, than representing their own people with common sense in everyday issues.

Ireland South

Patrick Murphy is a fisherman who started his own business at the age of 18 and from the age of 20 he was chosen by his fellow fishermen to represent them. Patrick Murphy hit the national headlines recently as the man who negotiated the withdrawal of the Russian Navy from Irish waters. Today he works as a leader within the fishing industry not just at home but also at the highest level in Europe. He is committed to protecting the rural way of life that is constantly under attack by this Government. Unafraid to speak truth to power, Patrick is a ferocious campaigner and a source of knowledge unrivalled by any of the current crop of Irish MEPs that have kowtowed to interests contrary to the needs of the Irish people.

Midlands North West

Peadar Tóibín TD is the Aontú candidate in the upcoming European Parliament elections. Peadar is running to platform the bread-and-butter issues being faced by people in the election campaign. Peadar is a ferocious advocate for the people. Peadar Tóibín TD has built a new political movement throughout Ireland, Aontú, that is doing more to hold the political establishment to account than all the other opposition parties put together. Peadar is a campaigner. He has the backbone to stand up for what he believes in. He has stated that: ‘the day a TD’s objective is to keep their seat rather than serve the people is the day that a TD is no longer fit for the job’.

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
