DRUG LORDS RUBBING THEIR HANDS SUCH IS “EASE TO CHANNEL DRUGS IN IRISH SEAS”.

The massive increase in drugs being channeled from Irish waters into mainland Europe once again shows up the vulnerability of our coastline due to the gutting of our Naval service.

That’s according to Patrick Murphy, CEO of Irish South and Fish Producers Organisation, who is standing for Aontú in the Ireland South Constituency in the upcoming European Elections

“It is long known that our rugged, and in many ways isolated coastline is a highly attractive gateway to the European Continent. I have it on good authority that senior officers in the war against drugs have asked people engaged in fishing if they could keep a watchful eye on any suspicious activities on the waters. This is ongoing and their concerns are real. They even procured a small cutter for policing our shoreline”.

“I feel the gravity of the situation is not being taken seriously by our government or the vast majority of our opposition”.

“Why are so many Naval boats in Ireland tied up--we spent millions buying two more from New Zealand in the past couple of years, just to bring them in and tie them up to our ports and pier walls as we cannot find the resources to employ enough Naval staff to put them to sea”.

“Can you imagine how the drug lords in Europe and beyond must see us ; this is absolute madness, they are laughing at us and laughing all the way to the bank and on the backs of people to whom they ply their disgusting trade”. “

“I suggest we follow the football clubs who loan out players to other teams when they have a full compliment and they want to keep their players fresh, and they of course can have them returned to them when they are needed …surely, we could do the same. The European Fisheries Control Agency ( EFCA), whose CEO is an Irish woman,  could surely get the vessels that are fit for purpose of inspection, as the ones they currently lease are not fit for purpose, burning massive amounts of fuel and cannot get up to speed to match many of the fishing vessels that they are supposed to be monitoring and board in Irish waters”.

“I’m concerned for the safety of our hard-working fishers, they are not getting the protection they clearly need and our Government is rudderless”.

“It has cast our fishing industry adrift---literally. It is spending millions of taxpayer’s euros on small piers and ports for others to fish from, as our fishers are leaving the industry as they simply cannot continue due to the lack of opportunities for them to fish”.

“We have the richest waters in Europe yet our fishers are amongst the poorest, it is absolutely beyond comprehension”.

“15 fish is the maximum number we are allowed to catch, while others are allowed to catch  85”.

“It is truly risible and we are being sold down the river –literally”.

“It is not governing our country properly and the bulk of the opposition is not doing its job properly. We genuinely don’t have an opposition to speak of “.

“The government is squandering money; it is a runaway train and it’s out of control”.

“If there is ever the will to make another Father Ted series they won’t be lacking in material with this Government. They could make several series and each would be more incredulous than the last”.

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
