Doyle Seeks to Recall Council Over New Virus Strain
Derry Aontú Cllr Emmet Doyle has requested a recall of Derry City and Strabane District Council to discuss how Council could react to the new variant strain of Coronavirus and if City of Derry Airport could be utilised to follow the same response as many EU countries in suspending flights from Britain
Cllr Doyle said: “People are extremely frustrated at the Executive’s failure to agree a travel ban from Britain following similar moves from the Republic and other EU countries. I have asked the Mayor to recall Council to ascertain if we can enact some restrictions in City of Derry Airport to minimise the risk of this new variant strain spreading locally.
The island needs to take a unified response to this new threat and I would call on all Councillors to support my request so we can get a fuller picture of our options in the interest of public health.”
