Cllr. Jim Codd welcomes the news of the coming appointment of a Wexford vacant properties officer
Cllr. Codd noted that while this was a positive development “I will be demanding this should be more than just spin.”
Cllr. Codd said “We have over 10,000 homeless people in this state today. There are 60,000 people on the housing waiting list and over 100,000 empty homes across the nation. The most up-to-date figures indicate that there are over 12,500 vacant properties in County Wexford.”
Cllr. Codd continued “I will be demanding that the new vacant properties officer be given far reaching powers to turn vacant properties into homes for those who need them.”
Cllr. Codd continued “In Wexford town, we’ve seen the politics of stagnation allow the old hospital to collapse into ruins and the old Garda Station to become a dosshouse for rats while people slept on the streets.”
Cllr. Codd concluded “No more excuses. Let’s begin to proactively fix this housing crisis with the very clear and available resources we have.”
