CLLR EMMET DOYLE: SDLP Cllrs Vote for Abortion on Demand Provision in Derry

Aontú Cllr for Derry, Emmet Doyle, has hit out at several SDLP Cllrs for their vote and support for unfettered abortion – whilst Aontú stood against the radical abortion motion before Derry City & Strabane District Council.

Cllr Doyle:

“Whilst the entire 32 counties are fighting for the protection and preservation of life at all stage amidst a global pandemic which has claimed the lives of millions of people the world over, PBP Cllr Eamon McCann decided to bring a motion pushing abortion of the Unborn before Derry City & Strabane District Council. At a time when life has been fought for by our healthcare heroes, it is simply inexplicable that a political party would push for abortion of the most vulnerable in our society. The PBP motion was of course supported by Sinn Féin and several SDLP Cllrs. Its incredible that Aontú is now the only Nationalist and Republican political part that stands for the right to Life for everyone. Its is shocking to seek SF and SDLP elected reps turn their backs on Human Rights”.

“Previously, an Aontú motion at the council to prevent the imposition of an extreme regime of abortion on the North was voted down. The SDLP and SF both lobbied and gladly watched on as abortion was introduced into the North by Westminster – in violation of the Good Friday Agreement. SDLP MPs at Westminster including their Leader Colum Eastwood voted for abortion up till the birth of the Child in Westminster well and truly turning their backs on the Civil and Human Rights of their founding members.

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
