Cllr Denise Mullen: Westminster Cannot Impose Extreme Abortion Regimen On The North

Speaking on the current legal challenge to Westminster’s abortion extremism, Aontú Deputy Leader & Cllr for Mid Ulster, Denise Mullen, has expressed support for the legal challenge and condemned Westminster’s imposition of abortion on the North as a flagrant violation of the Good Friday Agreement.

Cllr Denise Mullen: “We must do everything within our power to protect the life of the unborn in the North of Ireland. The North is pro-life, and dictates from Westminster won’t change that. We must never forget the reason we are forced to fight this threat to the life of the unborn through the courts. Sinn Féin and the SDLP colluded with the Tories in Westminster to impose a radical abortion regimen upon the people of the North against the democratic will of the people and in violation of the GFA. Sinn Féin has broken with republican tradition. Instead of opposing Westminster’s attempts to legislate for Ireland they went cap in hand to London and begged the Tories to impose this law. While the SDLP leadership ignored their own party and reversed a right to life policy that went back to John Hume. The Life of the Unborn in the North is now at the mercy of a Tory in Westminster, SF and the SDLP have done this without any consultation of the people in the North.”

“Aontú is a party dedicated to Human Rights and equality for all. We are now the only All Ireland party that supports the Right to Life of everyone. We in Aontú will do everything in our power to ensure that compassionate supports are provided to all mothers to help them raise their children to their full potential and to fight this undemocratic, radical abortion regimen through the Courts.”

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
