“Bus Cancellations Pushing Meath Commuters Against the Wall” – Cllr Emer Tóibín

Aontú Cllr for Meath, Emer Tóibín has criticised the frequent and on-going bus cancellations in Meath. The 103, 109 and NX routes were cancelled on the 8th of July. The 103, NX and 109 routes were cancelled on the 21st of July. The 168 and 105 routes were cancelled on the 25th of July. The NX route was also cancelled on the 27th of July.

Speaking today, Cllr. Tóibín said “The frequency of bus cancellations in Meath are staggering. People rely on these buses for work and education. Sudden cancellations can put people into seriously difficult positions. It can even put people’s jobs on the line.”

Tóibín continued “Aontú have been very consistent in the need for investment in public transport in Meath. The government has consistently failed to match the rapid population growth in Meath over the past decade with appropriate development in public transport”

“The imposition these cancellations are putting on people, coupled with the extortionate tax on fuel and four toll bridges in the county is pushing Meath commuters up against the wall” concluded Cllr. Tóibín

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
