Attack on Galway Mosque is Sinister and Wrong - Tóibín
Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín, Meath West TD, has spoken out against the recent attack on a Ahmadiyya mosque in Galway. Considerable vandalism was done to the centre in the early hours of Monday morning.
An Teachta Tóibín stated:
"The attack on the Monavea Road mosque is unjustifiable. It was an attack against a section of our community, singling out and vilifying people because of their religion.
"A society that believes in religious freedom cannot allow violence and destruction to take place on the basis of people's religion.
"Aontú is committed to religious freedom and pluralism. It is worth recalling the 1916 Proclamation's guarantee of civil and religious liberty. We need to build a republic where all our citizens, Catholic, Protestant, Jew, Muslim, Hindu and Atheist can be who they are in without fear or favour from anyone. Ireland is a richer place when the diversity of our society has a right to flourish”.
