AONTÚ WILL HAVE A SEAT IN CORK NORTHWEST OF THAT THERE IS NO DOUBT

She walked thousands of miles over the past few months and worked into the early hours and while she admits she is tired, Aontu’ s Cork Northwest candidate Becky Kealy is in upbeat mood as her hugely respectable vote of 4,054 is distributed.

Surrounded by her small team, Kealy says she is incredibly proud of the vote she achieved calling it a “massive battle but one I conducted with my head held high”.

She says “I want to thank the people of Cork Northwest who believed in me and stayed with me. They know me to be a woman of determination, character and integrity and know that I would have worked my socks off for them”.

“I am so happy with the vote I achieved, and I genuinely want to thank each and every one of those who voted for me, they believed in me and knew that I would have stuck to my word and delivered for them. I am passionate about my country and its people and believe they have been badly served by successive governments. I am a democrat and I accept the will of the people but I will be watching to see if the promises made by my fellow candidates across this area who were elected will come good on the promises they made and if not , I will hold them to account ,make no mistake about that”.

“ I do wish them well ,politics is not easy and we need to remembers they are human beings with all the feelings that human beings have”.

“I am incredibly happy with the campaign I my team ran. We ran a clean, professional, compassionate and decent campaign on an absolute shoestring. It was a true team effort, and I can’t thank them enough. What we didn’t have in terms of the huge sums of all the other parties we more than made up on with true grit and passion.  My Aontú colleagues ,who are like family to me,  drove  thousands of miles to canvass and distribute my election materials, they  stayed up all night putting up posters, they were, and are superb and their efforts are reflective of our ethos; Aontú genuinely cares about those who are less fortunate, those who can’t rent a home let along buy one,  little children waiting for long promised scoliosis treatments,, people working all hours just to pay the bills , the list is endless”.

“I know I have a solid base of 8% and I am going to continue to build on that and grow it. I will continue to work for and on behalf of my constituents and continue to strengthen the party I love and respect. I am honoured to be a founding member of Aontú and what we have achieved in just five years is nothing short of remarkable”.

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
