Aontú welcomes healthcare professionals open letter in defence of the right to life in the north - Tóibín

Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín TD has welcomed a letter by 835 Doctors, Nurses, Midwives and other Health and Social Care workers setting out their objections to the impending imposition of an extreme abortion-on-demand regime the north.

An Teachta Tóibín stated:

"The letter by 835 healthcare professionals is a very welcome development in what is truly a difficult time for all of us who are committed to safeguarding the lives of everyone, including the vulnerable preborn human.

"The pace at which pro-abortion politicians in Britain and their allies in the north of Ireland, especially Sinn Féin, have moved to ensure that one of the world's most extreme abortion regimes comes into being is astonishing. This is an attack on the universal human right to life. Additionally, these actions blatantly disregard the right of people in the north to determine their own laws in an area that was meant to be strictly the preserve of their representatives, not English, Scottish or Welsh politicians.

"It is encouraging that health professionals in the north are speaking out against the sustained effort to strip the right to life from preborn humans, a section of the human family. People throughout society should take heed of what these doctors, nurses and carers are saying.

"Aontú is calling for people across the north to make it known to their elected representative that they steadfastly oppose the imposition of abortion-on-demand up to the point of viability and the removal of all meaningful protections for preborn humans. We are also asking that people in the north put pressure on politicians to take all possible to ensure that abortion-on-demand is halted before it comes into being on 22nd October. The failure of politicians from establishment parties to do that will tragically result in lost lives."

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
