Aontú Select Cllr Emmet Doyle as Candidate for Foyle in Assembly Elections
Aontú has selected Derry Cllr Emmet Doyle as their candidate for Foyle in the next Assembly Elections, a target constituency for the party as we aim to challenge the Stormont Establishment Parties and provide genuine opposition to the to the broken Stormont system.
Aontú Leader Peadar Tóibín TD: “Emmet Doyle has been an industrious Cllr for Aontú in Derry who has focused on the bread and butter issues that matter to the communities of Derry, and offering genuine opposition to the Stormont Establishment parties. Whilst, the SDLP and Sinn Féin have forgotten where they come from, Aontú is now the only party in Derry and Strabane fighting for the right to life, Irish unity and economic justice.”
“Derry and the north west of Ireland has been ignored by the Stormont Assembly since its inception. As a regional city Derry has enormous potential and we in Aontú are determined in making it happen. Derry is an afterthought when it comes to infrastructural development. This is not an accident, SDLP and SF have been too east coast focused. Aontú are pushing for balanced regional development so that families can work, live and raise their families on their own communities”.
“Aontú is only two years old, yet we have achieved over 50,000 votes, has elected reps from Derry to Wexford, has over 1,000 members and 60 functioning Cumann. Aontú is polling higher that PbP and similar levels to the Labour and the Greens. We are an All-Ireland political movement that is now preparing for the Stormont elections. The Foyle constituency will be a target constituency for us. I have every confidence that Emmet Doyle will help lead that fight for Aontú in Stormont.”
