Aontú Delighted that Dr. Seán McNicholl will stand for Election in East Derry

Aontú is delighted to announce that Dr. Seán McNicholl will stand for the party in the constituency of East Derry in the December election.

Speaking today, Dr McNicholl stated:

"I am an Armagh native, but am now living and working in East Derry as a GP registrar.I have worked in the east Derry area and Altnagelvin hospital for the last 3 years.

"Outside of work, I am the medical officer for the Armagh Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes. I am also a keen GAA supporter and have held various roles within my club in the past. I’m an avid Armagh supporter, as disappointing as that can be at times!"

Speaking about Aontú and its positive message of life, unity and economic justice, Dr. McNicholl said:

"Aontú is a party that I can fully support. Our motto of Life, Unity and Economic Justice reflects a positive vision of the future. Although I am as far from a career politician as you could find, I am proud to stand for Aontú in the upcoming general election.

"I seek to be able to give a voice to those who desire real change, a voice for those who want a better future; a voice for the voiceless. Across the north, and indeed across all of Ireland, Aontú is providing an nationwide alternative to the establishment political parties that have acted in a cartel-like fashion to carve-up politics."

The Irish political system is radically broken

In Ireland the vast majority of elected representatives put a finger in the air to check which way the political wind is blowing. They have one eye on their leaders – seeking brownie points – and another eye keeping their seat safe. If elected reps shut up and do as they’re told, they are promoted; if they stand up for what they believe in, they are demoted. No wonder we have the political class we have. No wonder one point one billion euro is being buried in a hole under the National Children’s Hospital and that Stormont is in stalemate.

Throughout Ireland, many people are now afraid to say what they feel, many are afraid to respectfully engage on a range of different topics. Many feel there is a new censorship and a new political correctness in Ireland, that opposition to the establishment is being deleted.

Respectful opposition is not the enemy. Respectful opposition is a critical element of a functional democracy. Aontú will have the backbone to stand up, without fear, for you.
