"Aontú Cllr Sarah Beasley Appointed Co-Chair of First Limerick Homeless and Addiction Expert Group"
Aontú Cllr Sarah Beasley has been appointed to the first Expert Group established under the new Mayoral programme to tackle homelessness and drug addiction in Limerick city and county.
Cllr Beasley, a long-time advocate and campaigner for people on the margins will co-chair the high-level task force, established by Mayor John Moran, in what is a realisation of her election promise to do all she can for people disadvantaged by homelessness and addiction.
Speaking following her appointment, Cllr Beasley said
“I have been working for the homeless and those in addiction for years. I organise regular homeless street outreach in Limerick city and I have seen just how damaging living on the streets is for people. They are caught in a vicious cycle and are often in complete and utter despair. One of my main election promises was a commitment to do all I could to bring their plight centre stage”.
“I am delighted to co-chair this high-level group and really encouraged by the action the Mayor has taken around this in a very short time. Hhomelessness and drug addiction require urgent compassionate and practical solutions that centre around the dignity and well-being of every individual affected. Our goal now is to recommend sustainable long term strategies that will not only address immediate needs but also lay the groundwork for a more inclusive and supportive future for all residents of Limerick”.
The task group that Cllr Beasley will co-chair is to be produce an interim report to focus specifically on what actions might be taken to eradicate childhood homelessness over the term of the council.
